Obviously, there were lots of challenges for a foreign student at his freshman year. For instance, there were a large amount of business concepts needed to be understood and memorized in business course, which caused lots of students got F finally. For handing this problem, and increasing my understanding and memorizing about the concepts, I hand-copy a thousand of PowerPoint slides, which were all the PowerPoint professor used in whole semester, and finally got an A in this hard course.
There are all kinds of challenges in my freshman year in both study and life aspects, but I handled most of problems successfully. However, certainly I couldn’t deal with all problems perfectly. For instance, I attended the statistics course at my first semester when I totally have no idea about a foreign university, which was a sophomore standard course. The teaching style of the professor in this course was inclined to let students to self-study. So, I had to read and learn hundreds pages of textbook by myself, it’s really a painful process and I get F in my first exam, I considered whether I should drop this course, but I thought I could do better. So I still not give up. I paid most of my efforts in this course than others. There is one night I just slept 2 hours for finishing a pretty tough extra credits assignment. I improved a lot in the later exams, however, because of the bad score of first exam, I was not be able to get A, and just receive a B finally. After I talked with several upperclassman, they told me this professor was extremely strict and difficult, and it’s extremely hard to get an A in this course, I should not attend it at freshman year and I should feel luck still get a B. That’s the story of the only “B” in my transcript. But I really thanks this “B”, it teaches me a new thing: I should consult others and get enough information before action.
